Case Study Snapshot

Lakeland Solar & Storage Project

Capacity: 10.8 MW solar PV alongside a 1.4 MW / 5.3 MWh battery storage system.

Location & Scope: A pioneering utility scale solar and storage plant on the fringe of the grid in Far North Queensland, designed to provide reliable dispatchable energy to remote communities.

Innovation: One of Australia’s first integrated solar plus battery installations, testing battery operation modes including ‘islanding’ to maintain power even when disconnected from the main grid.

Collaboration: Constructed through the combined leadership of Healm and SPD, bringing together commercial, engineering and delivery expertise to manage one of the most complex renewable projects of its time.

Outcome: Demonstrated real world reliability in challenging terrain, powering approximately 3,000 homes and informing future remote area renewable infrastructure.
