Renewable energy developments face challenges at every stage, from securing land and council approvals through to engineering, financing and grid connection. Without a clear framework, many projects stall under technical, regulatory or financial pressure. Land Identification

We begin by identifying and screening land suitable for solar and battery projects. This involves assessing grid proximity, planning overlays, land zoning and environmental constraints to ensure the site has the right foundations for development.

Feasibility

Once potential sites are shortlisted, our team undertakes detailed feasibility work. This includes exploring land tenure, preliminary design concepts, financial modelling and risk assessments. SPD collaborate with Healm at this stage to provide early design and engineering input, ensuring that potential technical issues are identified and addressed before progressing further.

Pre-Lodgement

At this stage we engage with councils, the State Assessment and Referral Agency (SARA), and Network Service Providers (NSP). Grid Connection enquiries are lodged, and Pre-Lodgement meetings are held to clarify environmental, planning and technical requirements. This ensures that issues are identified and addressed early, reducing the risk of delays later in the process.

Design and Applications

With feasibility confirmed, design work is advanced to around 30% maturity. At this stage, Development Approval (DA) applications are submitted to council and Grid Connection applications are lodged with the NSP. The technical depth of the design supports these submissions and helps approvals proceed efficiently.

EPC and Commissioning

Once approvals are in place, projects move to engineering, procurement and construction. Healm leads the commercial coordination and procurement process, while SPD take the lead in on site construction and commissioning. Their earlier involvement in feasibility provides a smoother handover into delivery, and their ISO accredited systems ensure construction is managed to the highest quality and safety standards.

Operations and Market Participation

Following commissioning, projects enter the operational phase. Healm supports long term monitoring, maintenance and integration into energy markets. Battery systems are often aggregated through Virtual Power Plant platforms, creating additional value by participating in wholesale and ancillary service markets.
